Western Cape police confirmed that more charges have been laid against swimming coach Tim Osrin, already accused of assaulting a domestic worker.
“Yes, another case has been opened against him,” said Colonel Andre Traut today.
He could not provide further details on the case.
According to the Saturday Star, Osrin appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court last week for allegedly assaulting domestic worker Cynthia Joni, who he claimed he had mistaken for a prostitute.
The paper reported that a Kenilworth, Cape Town prostitute had now come forward to say she had been assaulted by Osrin.
The 32-year-old said Osrin first confronted her in December last year. He told her to “get out of his street”. She ran into him in January again this year.
“This time he was on his bicycle. He screamed at me: ‘Are you still here?’,” the woman was quoted as saying.
“Then he put his bicycle on the side of the street and came up to me and started beating me. He grabbed my breasts and squeezed them hard and hit them. He kept hitting me and saying ‘f*ck off out of my street.’
“He kicked and beat me so hard that he knocked the tooth out of my mouth. I fell down and he carried on beating me.”
The woman laid a complaint against him earlier this week.
Osrin declined to speak to the Saturday Star’s sister paper, the Weekend Argus but explained his behaviour in an interview last week by saying he had thought Joni was a prostitute and that his neighbourhood was “full of prostitutes.”
“It has never even crossed my mind to hit a prostitute,” Osrin said, describing himself as a “clean-living guy who loves sport and who is completely involved in my community.”
Meanwhile, Traut said Osrin had not been re-arrested after the new charges.
“Investigations are still underway,” said Traut.
Osrin is expected back in court on November 27.
