Hunger drove me back to robbery - Robbery suspect

A 23 year old robbery suspect, Jelili Bello, said he went back to robbery due to hunger after he was released from prison last year. Bello who was paraded with 24 year old  Oluwatomisi Busari, was arrested during a robbery attempt in Ketu, Lagos.

The two suspects who specialize in snatching motorcycles, bags and other valuable items from people were apprehended with one locally-made pistol and a spanner in their possession.

Jelili in his confession said:

“I went back to stealing because of hunger. When I came back from prison in 2015, I could not locate my gang. So I formed a new one with my friend Tomisi.
“We have successfully stolen five motorcycles which we had sold. We have someone who helps us to sell them at Idi-Iroko. “He gives us N10,000 each after every sales. However, sometimes, he gives us N5,000.”
The other suspect, Busari, during his confession said:
“We go out in the evening and stop some of the commercial motorcyclists with offer to pay a huge sum for them to take us to our destination. “We attack them in deserted areas. If they refuse to part with the bike, we spray pepper in their eyes. If we do not succeed in getting motorcycles, we move to motor parks, where you have large number of people travelling.
“Sometimes, we offer to help them with their bags and luggage, but end up disappearing with their properties.”
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects will be charged to court soon.
